  • Teacher Tenure and Unions

No other job in the country keeps you from being fired forever outside of academia. When will we get rid of this practice in Texas? Also, why do Texas public schools deal with Teacher’s Unions? We’re a right to work state, and we should do away with the stranglehold the teachers unions have on our education system and the political system used to regulate it.

Excellent point, Benjamin. I believe we need an education system that provides incentives to the best teachers. Principals need the authority to make personnel decisions that best fit their campuses. Texas is a right-to-work state and I wholeheartedly support that philosophy.

How does this provide incentives to the best teachers?

Regarding tenure, shouldn’t this also apply to TEA? All 701 of them? Where are the checks and balances there?
