  • Redefining marriage Is essential to ensuring equal rights to all . If you truly believe that {Governments must leave the people free to promote marriage as a union of a man and a woman, for the benefit of society, and must refrain from discrimination against them because of their religious belief that such a union constitutes the exclusive meaning of marriage.} then in that case Government recognition of ANY marriage should be abolished .

Religious liberty as you are describing it is almost entirely christian and one sided though you do a GREAT job at avoiding using the word Christian…

Recommendation #1 has no place in government. Texans should not be indoctrinated or coerced or encouraged into religious activity by their government. That is purely the role of whatever religious organizations exist, not the government.

I disagree with both comments posted here. Government is an entity reflected by its people, not the other way around. The body of citizens do not derive their rights based on the will of the government, the government derives its power from the consensus of the majority, not the minority. Governments do not allow religion, nor can they abolish it. The people, who may or may not be religious allow the presence of government and empower it to reflect their will. The minority have the right to vote for their beliefs ( in which gay marriage and Atheism are just that, beliefs ) but if they represent the minority will, they do not override the will and rights of the majority. Plain and simple the government is not a tool to force beliefs upon the population. If you choose to reside within a culture with opposing beliefs than your own you can adapt or you can leave. You have the right to speak your mind and vote, but your opinion and belief are not the law of the land. Nor can you take liberties with the rights of others and force Atheism and gay marriage upon those who do not agree. No one is making you go to church or marry some one of the opposite sex. If you want to be married in a homosexual marriage, move to California. No one is forcing you to stay here.

@chanch … No one is forcing homosexual marriage on you .. If you think some one is your sorely delusional..

You don’t have my permission as an American to dismiss my federal Constitution, which overrides the state. Start acting like part of this nation, again.
    Love and kisses,
    an American First

Your rhetoric is duplicitous, deceitful and mean-spirited. You do not begin to comprehend the meaning of the U.S. Constitution. The courts are striking down same-gender marriage bans and will strike down Texas’. For Christians to whine that you are being oppressed as you do your best to oppress atheists is offensive. Your advocacy for exporting your religion abroad while claiming to support religious freedom is dangerous and provocative. Yes you were elected but those of us who disagree profoundly with your antidemocratic ideas will NEVER stop communicating our views directly to you. Please don’t tell me to move somewhere else, as i am a third generation native Texan. This is as much my home as it is yours.
