Human Services

-To the extent possible, public assistance programs should be a temporary support, not lifelong dependency.
-In return for taxpayer-financed welfare, it should be a minimal consideration not to abuse drugs or alcohol while on public assistance.
-The Texas Medicaid program is the single largest government program in the entire state budget, and is growing both in absolute terms and as a proportion of the state budget with each succeeding biennium.
-We must strive to ensure that Medicaid and other health and human services programs are free of fraud, waste, and abuse.
-The state must continue to pursue child support from those who do not pay: enforcing personal responsibility is always a better solution that requiring the taxpayer to step in.
-Wherever possible, Texas must ensure that child-rearing decisions should be made by parents and families – not by government bureaucrats. Parental responsibility is key.
