  • Benefits of Dual Credit

I’ve looked to see if there has been a specific position taken on the importance of Dual Credit classes in both the K-12 and Higher ed areas and haven’t seen anything.

Both of my children have benefited GREATLY from this program in Texas. Being in small, rural schools (2A and 3A), they were able to have QUALIFIED community college teachers come and cover college level (English Lit, Composition, College Algebra, Psychology, Economics) subjects in a familiar environment and at an affordable cost. First child did a mixture of both AP and Dual Credit…and the AP exam fell the day after the PROM. The entire course score is determined by one test. With Dual Credit courses, you earn a grade based on your overall class grade…just like in college.

I’ve calculated that by enrolling in dual credit courses, our family has saved over $10K per child. With the cost of attendance rising and loan rates over 6%, this is VERY real savings for Texas families. The requirement for Texas Public Universities to accept the transferred credit is a huge benefit as well. Some schools are starting to not accept AP credit…making DC even more of a benefit.
