I think Texans should be interested in in a convention of the states, convened to suggest amendments to the US constitution. I can think of quite a few that would force Washington to be more representative, but I think we should select only one or two that have a good chance of being agreeable to the other states. The two that come to mind are a balanced budget amendment and congressional term limits. If the subject comes up, and the legislature is out of time to work on such an item, I would want a governor that is agreeable to calling a special session to get this done.

It is my understanding that 22 states, including Texas have expressed an interest in such a convention. 34 states are needed to call such a convention. Lets make this official. Convene the legislature and lets have a vote. (I know you are not governor yet, but you will be.) Send a an official request for such a convention Yes or NO. Let’s see where we stand.

Washington DC is broken. States must balance the budget, and there is no reason why the federal government should not be mandated to do so as well. Congressional term limits will do away with our ruling class that have moved to DC, and really aren’t from the districts they represent anymore. We need new people and new ideas, and a willingness to challenge the DC norms, and ask WHY DO WE DO IT THAT WAY? DC is stuck in a rut and the states are the way out of the rut. You will soon be our governor. I would like to hear you say that you are on board with this.
