Abbott’s plan gives districts that volunteer to seek the envisioned aid the flexibility to choose an assessment method.
    .
Greg Abbott’s plan does not mandate standardized testing of 4-year-olds.

Can you summarize the assessment methods from which districts will be able to choose? The goal would be to evaluate a district’s Pre-K program against the state’s defined “Gold STANDARD Pre-K” in order to secure continued district funding, correct?

If this is an ongoing PROGRAM, where will state funding, that “districts will have much freedom with” come from? Why would we consider putting this new regulation in the state budget? Doesn’t this contradict a return to local control? Why not leave PreK in the hands of parents, communities and churches?

Certainly, Ms. Jumes. Greg Abbott is committed to local control. The Gold Standard program is optional, so that parents, teachers, and schools can opt-in if the program is right for them. If a district does not opt-in, it will have no impact on their funding.

Whose tax dollars will pay for those who opt in? The same folks who pay for school breakfast and lunch programs (sometimes on top of food stamps), the same ones who pay for multi-million dollar stadiums (for an elite few of the community to use), the ones who pay Pearson unbelievable amounts of money for standardized testing….????Why not let those folks keep “Gold Standard Pre-K” defining dollars in their pockets to contribute to their own children’s, grandchildren’s, or neighbor’s parent/community/church defined “Gold Standard Pre-K?” When did we decide that it was state business, rather than that of a parent, to define what a “Gold Standard PreK” looks like?

Isn’t all of this rhetoric just to fall in line with:

One only need Google a few Michael Williams speeches/write-ups on the topic to know where this is going. The “experts” must do everything

We can keep our own “Gold Standard Pre-K” if we like it, right?
