What is Mr Abbott’s relationship and cooperation level with the ethics commission and how does he propose to increase transparency in this regard?

He might begin here – with some explanation about Mr. Sullivan’s appearance here in light of his conflict with the Texas Ethics Commission. In an earlier post, I requested some reply – but Seth W. Christensen, a Policy Analyst for Texans for Greg Abbott, has not responded.

See unanswered question below. As Roman History buffs say, “Cum tacent, clamant!”

    Mr. Christensen,

Though Mr. Sullivan is not speaking on behalf of the campaign, he is here by the campaign’s invitation.

As you well know, Mr. Sullivan has significant issues with a state agency charged with administering and enforcing laws in Texas. Of course, Attorney General Abbott’s office is charged to defend the laws and the Constitution of the State of Texas.

I am concerned about what appears to be a tacit affirmation of Mr. Sullivan in the face of his difficulties with the Texas Ethics Commission. Several have observed that Mr. Sullivan’s response to allegations is to “play the refs” – undermine the legitimacy of the case by undermining the authority of the Texas Ethics Commission. Having him host this forum at this time can be taken as an endorsement of him – even part of his defense strategy!

If the campaign can make some statement in this regard, it will certainly help clear the air. Failing that, there are some serious questions as to whether Attorney General Abbott is either deliberately or inadvertently undermining the Ethics Commission’s authority.

    Sincerely,
