Preventing base closures and military reductions is a centerpoint of this campaign. Keeping America strong is important, but as a country we disproportionately overspend on defense by a huge margin. My contacts in the military agree that substantial reduction and re-alignment is called for to keep the US well-defended without breaking the bank. They need the flexibility to do this in the most effective manner. And that means closing quite a few facilities in Texas.

Further, demanding Washington DC increase pork-barrel spending in Texas just to keep our economy strong is embarrassing. It’s the sort of thing I expect from California, not Texas.

Instead of begging for more money, we should be accepting the closure of US military bases in texas, and expecting the turnover of those facilities to the state of Texas for economic development. They can become Texas Guard bases, parks, training centers, universities, offices, parks, and other revenue-generating assets.

Let’s grow the Texas and US economy by being productive, not by begging for Washington table scraps.
