  • Reduced and Waived fees

As a veteran I had no idea that I didn’t have to pay a fee for my driver’s license or an “exclusive property tax appraisal reduction”. I need to find out more about these.

Under Texas Tax Code Section 11.22, “A disabled veteran is entitled to an exemption from taxation of a portion of the assessed value of a property the veteran owns and designates, ranging from $5,000 to $12,000 depending on the severity of the disability.

In addition, Texas Drivers Licenses are furnished free of charge to veterans with qualifying service-connected disabilities.

To learn more about Texas veteran’s benefits, you might consider the online Texas Veterans Portal at: http://www.texas.gov/en/veterans/pages/assist-benefits.aspx

Why do only the disabled VETS get these benefits. Anyone that served in one of the branches for a given time or had gone to war on our behalf should be intitled for such fair “thank you”. I always discount my shops rates for military, officers, fire fighters, teachers and nurses. All of them say that they wish others did too. Give back to the folks that help our communities and our freedom. Even the little things count.
