    Mr. Abbott,

    I’m a parent of 3 children whom have 1 or more disabilities that I have to fight on a continously basis in order to get the proper education plan, IEP, set and/or have tested through the system for assistance. Because of the lack of teacher knowledge or high standards set by the state for children and/or teens in the Texas schools, some our children are passed by and not acknowledged until it’s late.
    Dylexic children, for instance, struggle in more than just reading letters backwards. It affects phonics, math, direction, memory, speech and so much more. Combine that with a neurological disability as Dyspraxia and the memory, processing speed, executive function, visual perception, language/speech, and organization becomes more impacted than the typical Dyslexic child because it takes longer from start to finish which in turn is more exhausting. Our standards are set for children of the average developed child. One of my children is Dyspraxic and Dyslexic and is on a lower lever than the peers in class. After battling for a few years, the district if finally working with my child to fill in the gaps that the years behind failed to assist and provid. And I’m familiar with several cases that Dyslexia is not something many schools care to deal with it seems. I feel this is greatly important. Not to mention, how would your state standard tests accommodated for children with neurological challenges or other LDs that struggle to be on level?
    Please find a way to improve our childrens’ schools by providing a better education system as well as change the standards on being able to test children/teens aside from an educational only basis for placement in classes and/or accommodations.
